You don't need to be a serious cyclist to enjoy riding here. The old railroad grade through Todd is flat and follows the river, and the famous Virginia Creeper Trail is mostly downhill. Both are easy, scenic rides anyone can do.
Todd, NC — about 5 minutes from the cabin
For a relaxed, low-effort ride, rent a bike from RiverGirl in Todd and hop on Railroad Grade Road — a gently sloping, paved route that runs alongside the New River. Great for families or casual riders, with plenty of picnic and photo spots through peaceful countryside.
If you're up for a bit more exploration, cross the river and ride along Big Hill Road. Despite the name, the first stretch is flat and scenic, running parallel to the river and shaded by trees.

Damascus, VA — about 1.5 hours from the cabin
Don't let the 34-mile trail intimidate you — the Creeper is one of the easiest and most scenic rides you'll ever do. Rent bikes at The Bike Station in Damascus, take their shuttle to the top at Whitetop, then coast about 17 miles downhill through forests, farmland, and over old railroad trestles back into town. You'll barely have to pedal.
Owner's Tip: Bring water, snacks, and a camera. It's a relaxing half-day trip that delivers serious scenery — one of the most memorable activities in the region.
