West Jefferson, NC — about 20 minutes from the cabin
Our home course and the closest to the cabin. Dramatic elevation changes (some tee boxes drop 200 feet), long-range views, and a layout that's fair for all skill levels. Relaxed atmosphere and reasonable rates.
Owner's Tip: Mountain Aire is very accommodating — they'll even rent an extra cart for non-golfers. My wife and friends often ride along the front nine with drinks in hand, enjoying the views. By hole 10, they usually decide to ride the full 18 — it's like a mountain hike without the walking.

A Larry Nelson–designed course that runs along the New River valley — flatter and more walkable than the mountain courses, with well-kept fairways and a nice clubhouse with dining. It's semi-private, so call ahead to check public tee time availability.

A classic Ellis Maples course and the go-to public 18 in Boone. Well maintained, walkable valley layout, and popular with locals — open roughly April through November. Good option if you're already spending the day in Boone.

Roaring Gap, NC — about 1 hour 15 minutes from the cabin
A hidden gem in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Expertly maintained with lush fairways, gorgeous landscaping, and challenging holes framed by sweeping vistas. As a frequent golfer, I can confidently say it's one of my all-time favorite places to play — and it's surprisingly affordable for what you get.
Owner's Tip: Make a day of it — after your round, take the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway route back to the cabin via Deep Gap. It adds to the experience with stunning mountain views and a peaceful drive.
